Parvez Elahi has been granted bail in the matter involving illegal recruitments in the Provincial Assembly.

In the matter of illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted bail to Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab and President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Justice Sultan Tanveer of the Lahore High Court delivered the ruling that had been previously reserved. During the court hearings, Parvez Elahi’s counsel informed the court that he was charged by the Anti-Corruption Establishment two years after the complaint was registered against him.

According to lawyer Amir Saeed Ran, Parvez Elahi did not take any remuneration from any candidate for the purpose of recruiting. He was not involved in these recruitments. The Anti-Corruption Establishment fabricated a false seizure from Parvez Elahi’s residence.

The counsel for the Anti-Corruption Establishment stated that the case against Elahi had been registered in accordance with the law. Elahi was apprehended on October 25, 2023. Subsequently, the Lahore High Court withheld its verdict.

It is important to note that on March 27, 2024, the court denied Elahi’s request for bail, prompting him to resubmit the plea to the court. The court had deferred its ruling on March 26 following the completion of the lawyers’ arguments.

A complaint of illicit recruitment has been filed by the Anti-Corruption Department against Parvez Elahi and the former secretary of the Punjab Assembly.
The High Court had scheduled Elahi’s plea for a hearing in May, specifically on April 28.
