PM Shehbaz denounces missile assaults on UAE civilian infrastructure

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, vehemently denounced last night’s drone and missile attacks on civilian facilities in the United Arab Emirates.

“I express full solidarity with His Highness @MohamedBinZayed,” he stated in a message on X. At this trying moment, Pakistan stands firmly with the Government of the United Arab Emirates and our Emirati brothers and sisters.

He came to the conclusion that the ceasefire must be maintained and respected in order to provide the required diplomatic space for discussions that would result in long-term peace and stability in the area.

On Monday, authorities in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, reported that a drone assault from Iran was the cause of the fire that started at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone. According to a statement from the Fujairah Media office, civil defense troops were sent out right away to put out the fire. Iran did not immediately respond.

A U.S. official refuted a story that it had been hit by Iranian missiles, according to an Axios journalist. Iran had earlier claimed to have caused a U.S. vessel to turn back from entering the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.

Iran’s military claimed to have used a “swift and decisive warning” to stop “American-Zionist” warships from entering the Strait of Hormuz.

A senior U.S. source promptly refuted the account, according to Axios’ Barak Ravid. Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency said that two missiles had struck the destroyer close to the port of Jask at the southern entrance to the strait, where Iran’s navy has a base.
