Political instability continues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until 2025.

The year 2025 was characterised by political instability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, evidenced by frequent government reshuffles and a change in the chief minister’s office.

Ali Amin Gandapur, who assumed the role of chief minister on March 2, 2024, resigned on October 15 following a tenure of one year, seven months, and thirteen days. Subsequent to his resignation, Sohail Khan Afridi was sworn in as the next chief minister on October 15, 2025.

Throughout Ali Amin Gandapur’s administration, the provincial cabinet had multiple alterations. On October 2, few days before to his resignation, a new reshuffle was executed. Khaliq ur Rehman was reassigned from excise and taxation to the health portfolio, while Ehtesham Khan transitioned from health adviser to excise adviser. Zahid Chandzeb was reassigned from the tourism sector to the labour sector.

Pakhtoon Yar was transferred from public health engineering to sports, while Fakhar Jahan was allocated to public health engineering after being dismissed from sports. Muhammad Asim Khan was designated as the special assistant for elementary and secondary education.

Subsequent to Gandapur’s exit, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was disbanded. The newly appointed chief minister established a 13-member cabinet featuring a combination of experienced and novice individuals. Faisal Turki, Aqibullah, Khaliq ur Rehman, Fakhar Jahan, Fazal Shakoor, Aftab Alam, Dr. Amjad, Mena Khan, and Muzammil Aslam rejoined the cabinet, while Riaz Khan, Shafee Jan, and Taj Muhammad Tarand were newly appointed.

As stated by Special Assistant for Information Shafee Jan, the prerogative to reorganise the cabinet lies with the PTI founder, who possesses the ability to nominate or dismiss members at discretion.
