Proposal to smuggle diesel foiled by Customs

The information stated that various cars were being used to transport the illegal commodities, which included diesel and other illegal things.

The Customs team, under the direction of Collector Basit Maqsood, retrieved the contraband after stopping two trucks at the Northern Bypass and Hamdard Chowk, according to the statement.

Among the products that were being smuggled into Karachi were items of foreign origin diesel and other items. The Customs authorities have started an investigation into the case and taken action against the smugglers.

Previously, Pakistan was losing about $35.6 million a day due to the smuggling of about 4,000 tonnes of oil, according to the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), an organization that represents the oil industry.

The OCAC demanded a nationwide crackdown on oil smuggling in a letter to the secretary of petroleum.

The council requested that laws prohibiting the smuggling that was interfering with the commodity’s supply chain be passed by the government and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).

The country’s sales of gasoline and diesel fell 6.5% in the first eight months of the fiscal year 2023–24 compared to the same period the previous year, according to the OCAC.
