PTA requires SIM cards to be registered in the user’s name.

The usage of SIM cards registered in someone else’s name is prohibited by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which has mandated that all mobile SIM cards be registered in the user’s name.

The PTA asked customers to make sure that all of their SIM cards and telecom connections are registered under their own names in an official statement. According to the government, using a SIM card that is registered in someone else’s name is against telecom rules and could lead to legal action.

The PTA states that if a SIM card is misused, the registered user would be held entirely liable. This covers accountability for data usage, messages, and calls made using the registered number. Users are responsible for making sure their telecom connections are used legally, the regulator stressed.

The PTA added that adherence to telecom regulations concerning data usage and communication is essential. Penalties, SIM suspension, or additional legal action could result from any infraction of these rules.

The action is a component of PTA’s larger initiatives to stop illicit SIM use, improve national security, and stop financial fraud and cybercrime. Customers are urged to check the status of their SIM registration right away and to regularize any connections that are unregistered or incorrectly registered.
