PTI announces voting procedures ahead of intra-party elections on February 5.

Elections within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party are scheduled on February 5. After months of rumours and legal disputes over the party’s internal polls, Raoof Hasan, the newly elected Chief Election Commissioner, finally revealed this news.

Important Points:

  • Voting Eligibility: All PTI members registered by January 31, are eligible to vote.
  • Voting Modes: Voting can be done at designated polling stations on February 5 (10am-4pm) or electronically through the party’s “Connect” app.
  • Nomination Process: Nominations for various party positions are open today and tomorrow (January 31st – February 1st). Submissions can be made physically at PTI offices or digitally via email.
  • Nomination papers can be obtained from the party’s central secretariat or the website today and tomorrow. They can be submitted until 10pm on February 2.
    The papers can be submitted at the central or provincial secretariats, or digitally via email.
  • Scrutiny and Results: Scrutiny of nominations will take place on February 3, with final candidate lists published on February 4. Election results will be announced on February 6.

  • The locations of the voting places and the Appellate Tribunal date will be disclosed soon.
  • The party’s mobile app and website will provide information on the panels and candidates that will be taking part.

Importance:

For the PTI, these internal elections are very important since they are meant to settle internal conflicts and choose new leaders. The outcome of these surveys is essential for maintaining party cohesion and influencing future political initiatives.

The PTI has previously named its provincial election commissioners. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appointed Qazi Mohammad Anwar, Punjab appointed Waleed Iqbal, Sindh appointed Noorul Haq Qureshi, Balochistan appointed Syed Iqbal, and Gilgit-Baltistan appointed Shah Nasir as election commissioner.

Omar Ayub, the PTI’s chief organiser, released an official announcement.

Raoof Hasan, the head of the PTI, was unanimously chosen as the party’s main election commissioner on Wednesday.

During the PTI’s virtual general body meeting on Wednesday, this decision was made. The Central Secretariat was closed, thus the meeting was conducted by video connection.

PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Omar Ayub, and Raoof Hassan were present at the meeting, along with representatives and members from Quetta, Peshawar, and Islamabad.

It was also planned for a resolution about the intra-party elections to be submitted during the meeting. Additionally, a plan for holding intra-party elections in 15 days will be developed.
