Rehan Zeb Khan, an independent candidate, was shot and killed in Bajaur
Web Desk, or BAJAUR An independent candidate for PK-22 and NA-8 was shot and killed on Wednesday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district.
Station House Officer (SHO) of the Khar police station Rasheed Khan revealed that attackers opened fire on independent candidate Rehan Zeb Khan’s car when he was engaged canvassing in the area.
Rehan passed away from his wounds in spite of prompt efforts to get him to the District Headquarters Hospital. In addition, the SHO verified that four more people were injured during the event.
Officer Kashif Zulfiqar of the Bajaur District Police Department claimed that law enforcement was actively trying to carry out a comprehensive search operation in the area and voiced suspicions that the occurrence was a “targeted killing”.
However, the PTI condemned the murder and declared Rehan to be their nominee for a National Assembly seat. But according to official website, Gul Zafar Khan and Guldad Khan received tickets from the PTI for seats in the national and provincial assemblies, respectively.
The PTI cited past violent episodes, such as an attack on the party’s election rally in Sibi, to accuse the caretaker government of failing to maintain security.
The party demanded that the matter be looked into immediately, that the offenders face harsh penalties, and that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) step in.
