Safe City cameras turn on Rawalpindi’s automated e-challan system.

Starting today, the e-challan system for traffic offenses is officially up and running in the twin city of the federal capital.

The Safe City Project cameras have started automatically issuing e-challans. The system will send the car owner pictures of the violations and a coded e-challan. The fine must be paid by the deadline.

The Safe City Command and Control Center is connected to the e-challaning system, and automated CCTV cameras will record traffic offenses. People who break traffic signals, ride a motorcycle without a helmet, change lanes, or use a phone while driving will automatically get fines.

In the same way, non-standard or illegal number plates will also cause automatic action, and the perpetrator will get a challan right away at their home address.

More than 2,000 cameras have been put up in Rawalpindi as part of the Safe City project. There are also 15 cameras at the entrances and exits. These cameras are doing a great job of keeping an eye on public spaces, managing traffic, helping traffic cops do their jobs better, and keeping an eye on main highways.

Officials said that the surveillance system is also helping people report crimes and other events in a timely manner.
