The Constitution should be followed when holding LG elections. JI chief

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the leader of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), stated on Tuesday that elections for local governments have to be held in conformity with the Constitution.

According to Hafiz Naeem, the Election Commission and the courts are also in charge of arranging local government elections in Punjab. He declared that the new Local Government Act is intolerable in all situations and declared that a public referendum will start in every Punjabi town on January 15.

He added that a “market of human trading” will be established in Punjab’s 4,000 union councils, which is unacceptable in any situation, and that Jamaat-i-Islami would protest in front of the very assembly that enacted this law.

The head of Jamaat-e-Islami added that bureaucratic rule will persist unless authority is transferred to the grassroots level and that he asks the courts to make decisions in line with the Constitution.
