ISLAMABAD: A price rise for 146 vital, life-saving medications has been authorised by the federal cabinet.

The federal cabinet has authorised an increase in the Maximum Retail Prices (MRPs) of at least 146 medications under the hardship category, based on a request from the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS).

The summary that the NHS developed in light of the recommendations of the Drug Pricing Committee of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) was accepted by the cabinet during a meeting presided over by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in Islamabad.

During the conference briefing, it was disclosed that the Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) web portal is the place to file concerns regarding the unavailability of pharmaceuticals in urban markets.

The acting prime minister stated that measures against drug stockpiling and trafficking should be stepped up, and that plans to enhance the effectiveness of the Drug Regulatory Authority should be drafted.
