The KP cabinet authorizes the withdrawal of 51 cases pertaining to the event on May 9.

On Friday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet authorized the dismissal of 51 complaints against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and members that were filed in connection with the May 9 incident.
According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General, permission has also been given to establish a commission to look into what happened on May 9. He said that he had been specifically called to the cabinet meeting by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
He went on to say that a special prosecutor will be appointed following cabinet approval. The legal procedure for the cases’ withdrawal will be started by the special prosecutor.
The provincial government was previously advised to abandon the charges by the province’s Law Department.
Several PTI members of the provincial assembly are listed in these cases, according to sources, and their disqualification could result from conviction. Dozens of May 9 cases have already been settled in the province in recent weeks.
According to Shafiullah Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, the KP administration has previously withdrawn cases under Ali Amin Gandapur’s leadership with cabinet consent.
He underlined that there was no merit to any of the claims and that they were all driven by politics.
