Rickshaws are now prohibited on 26 major roads in Karachi.

As traffic congestion worsens, Karachi officials have expanded the ban on rickshaws on 26 main highways throughout the city.

Following suggestions from DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi issued the most recent restrictions on Thursday. They are being implemented under Section 144 of the CrPC.

Shahrah-e-Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Shershah Suri Road, and Shaheed-e-Millat Road are among the vital arteries covered by the prohibition, which was first implemented on 20 major highways in October 2025. The increased limitations, according to officials, are intended to facilitate commuter movement during peak hours, improve traffic flow, and lessen gridlocks.

Along with rickshaws, officials have restricted heavy vehicles during the day and set a speed limit of 30 km/h for HTVs in crowded locations. These steps are intended to relieve regular commuters who experience lengthy delays as a result of congested streets.

To guarantee successful implementation, the city administration has called on residents to work with traffic officials. To ensure proper traffic management, officials stressed that enforcement will be rigorous and that infractions will result in fines and penalties.

Commissioner Naqvi emphasized that the move is a component of a larger plan to enhance Karachi’s traffic system, which has been beset by problems as a result of the city’s explosive growth and the city’s growing automobile population.
