Senate chairman Faiz Hameed is adamant on bolstering public confidence in the accountability system.

The conviction of former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed will increase public trust in Pakistan’s accountability system, according to Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday.
Speaking to the local media at the home of former MNA Mehr Irshad Sial in Muzaffargarh, Gilani stated that recent events had destroyed the long-held belief that powerful people were beyond the courts.
He said that it was once thought that strong people could avoid responsibility, but this belief has now been disproved.
Gilani reiterated his dedication to South Punjab’s growth and prosperity, stating that work in this area would go on. He mentioned the Tayyab Erdogan Hospital and the Head Muhammadwala Bridge, which were built with Turkish help, as examples of the development initiatives the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had started for South Punjab, including Muzaffargarh, during its rule.
Gilani claimed that making south Punjab a distinct province was the only long-term way to alleviate the feeling of deprivation.
He pointed out that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had always pushed for the creation of new provinces in areas where there was agreement.
In response to a query, the Senate chairman emphasized that communication is the best approach to settle disputes and recommended that discussions be held with goods transporters to address their concerns.
