According to information, market associations have taken a more proactive stance following notifications from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), implementing fire safety measures in various marketplaces to help avert future fire-related crises.

In accordance with established operating protocols, fire safety extinguishers are being erected in every market, according to the president of the Karachi Mobile and Electronics Dealers Association. Emergency precautions are also being taken to protect traders.

The administration has increased its activity since the tragic event in Karachi last week.

These fire safety programs are designed to guarantee prompt action in case of an emergency.

In the meantime, assessments of structures in three city districts by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) have shown that about 90% of the buildings evaluated do not have adequate fire control measures.

In the Eastern, Central, and Southern districts, fire audits have been initiated in both residential and commercial buildings.

More than 300 buildings with inadequate fire safety measures have received notifications from the SBCA, giving them three days to make the necessary preparations. The majority of high-rise buildings lacked adequate emergency exits, and fire safety equipment in a number of structures was discovered to be non-operational, according to SBCA sources.

The authority also stated that blocked emergency exits were discovered in several buildings. Fire department members accompanied SBCA special teams during the survey.
