Maryam Nawaz calls for harmony and tolerance as the new Islamic year begins.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has urged residents to cultivate patience, tolerance and unity during Muharram, underlining the importance for avoiding division and sectarian hatred.

In her statement on the start of the Islamic year, the chief minister hoped the new year would bring peace, security and prosperity to Pakistan and the entire Muslim world.

“I pray that the new Hijri year becomes a source of unity and solidarity for the Muslim Ummah and a year of peace and progress for Pakistan,” she said.

She also prayed for the happiness, stability and prosperity of the country and termed the new Islamic year as a blessing for Pakistan, its people and the Muslim world.

Highlighting the importance of Muharram, she said the month is a remembrance of the heroic sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“The philosophy of sacrifice exhibited by Imam Hussain (RA) still inspires the oppressed and challenges the oppression in every era,” she remarked.

The chief minister asked the people to practice restraint and mutual respect throughout Muharram, saying the sacred month should be commemorated in a spirit of unity rather than dispute and division.

She also said unprecedented security and administrative measures were being taken across Punjab to preserve peace and maintain law and order during Muharram observances.
