Marriyum Aurangzeb says Punjab to set up wastewater treatment plants in every district

The province government has also announced plans to establish wastewater treatment plants in every city across Punjab as part of its wider effort to strengthen water and sanitation infrastructure, senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said.
Aurangzeb, while addressing in the Punjab Assembly during the budget session, complimented the speaker and the government over the passing of provincial budget and lauded the development efforts being pursued under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
She said the administration is working on a large project to rebuild 70-to-75-year-old subterranean water supply and sewerage pipes throughout the province.
84 cities are working on renovating underground sewerage networks, building underground storage tanks, and installing recharge wells to assist replenish groundwater.
Aurangzeb also said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz would inaugurate the Sargodha Cardiology Hospital in the first week of July.
She stated the facility was built and equipped with medical equipment in time.
The senior minister stated that Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) are functional in 41 districts of Punjab while more than 1,500 machines have been delivered to different local government institutions to boost municipal services.
She said water mapping has been completed in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur and its adjoining districts where clean water projects costing Rs42 billion are being implemented.
Aurangzeb said 5,800 water filtration units are providing clean drinking water to communities across the province.
Under the government’s model villages plan, involving 2,400 communities, inhabitants will be supplied with water supply, sewerage, sanitation and other basic infrastructure without any discrimination, she added.
Aurangzeb asked the opposition to name one single wastewater treatment plant which was set up during its rule.
She stated that the incumbent Punjab administration is determined to develop wastewater treatment plants in each city of the province.
