Pakistani short film ‘The Last Glance’ qualifies for 2028 Oscars longlist

The short film “The Last Glance,” directed by Pakistani filmmaker Kamran Faiq, was awarded the Jury Award for Best Short at the 21st Tasveer Film Festival in Seattle, which took place from October 13 to October 18. As a result, the film has been approved for inclusion on the longlist for the Academy Awards in 2028.
“The Last Glance” was the only film from the festival that was able to qualify for the Academy Awards, according to Faiq, who regarded the accomplishment as a significant milestone.
In his explanation of the significance of the achievement, Faiq stated that out of the thousands of short films that are submitted, only a small fraction of them are selected for further consideration.
The filmmaker made it clear that the fact that the picture was selected for the longlist does not necessarily mean that it has been nominated for an Academy Award. On the other hand, the accomplishment puts it in a position to proceed to the subsequent level of the awards competition.
Faiq also disclosed that the group was on the verge of recruiting an actor who had been nominated for an Academy Award to serve as an executive producer for the picture. This individual would be able to represent the film throughout the upcoming awards season.
The Last Glance depicts a family that is compelled to abandon their hamlet in the cover of darkness in order to escape the violence that is occurring there. For example, Adnan Shah Tipu, Areej Ayub, and Fahad Hashmi are among the actors who appear in the movie.
Additionally, Umer Peerzada is credited as the producer of the project, Khalid Saeed Khan is credited as the executive producer, and Mike McNamara and Armeena Rana Khan are credited as co-producers. Faiq is the one who wrote, produced, and directed the production.
An outstanding run on the international festival circuit is brought to a close with the film’s qualification for the Academy Award. Recent events at the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival in Canada resulted in the film being awarded the title of Best International Short Film.
When Faiq revealed on Instagram that The Last Glance had been chosen as one of eight finalists for the short film program at the Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles, he was competing against films from more than fifty Asian countries. This was yet another accomplishment for Faiq.
The award is a moment of encouragement for Pakistan’s film industry, as it highlights the capacity of local filmmakers to convey tales to viewers all over the world, despite the difficulties that are inherent in the process of independent filmmaking.
