An event on “New trends in terrorism” is organised by the Pakistan Mission and UNOCT.

A joint event on “New and emerging trends in terrorism” was arranged by the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT) and Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN.
The misuse of digital spaces, such as social media, encryption, and artificial intelligence, is one of the new trends in terrorism, according to Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN. Citing its own great suffering as a victim of terrorism, with over 80,000 dead and a substantial economic impact, Pakistan argued for international cooperation to combat these dangers, which it referred to as “externally sponsored.”
Attendees included academics, policymakers, diplomats, and civil society representatives. Three sessions made up the combined event that UNOCT and the Pakistan mission organised.
Threats from communication technologies and the difficulties governments face were also discussed. Experts concurred that a successful counterterrorism strategy is necessary.
