Punjab establishes mediation groups to address land issues.

The Punjab government has instituted mediation groups to resolve land disputes, as announced by the Board of Revenue Punjab.

The department has released a notification about this matter, effective since April 30.

According to the notification, conflicts will henceforth be adjudicated by a mediation group led by an Assistant Commissioner prior to proceeding to court.

Each five-member committee shall comprise the Assistant Commissioner, Assistant Collector, local revenue officers (Girdawar and Numberdar), and three members appointed by the opposing parties.

The committees have been empowered pursuant to Section 151(2) of the Punjab Land Revenue Act 1967.

Their objective is to adjudicate outstanding cases within 30 days, so ensuring expeditious justice. A monitoring cell has been established within the Board of Revenue Punjab to supervise their operations.
