Shehbaz directs speedy implementation of Apna Ghar Scheme

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday ordered the authorities to expedite the implementation of Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Scheme, reiterating the government’s resolve to expand affordable housing alternatives for low- and middle-income families.

The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement saying the instruction came during the meeting in Islamabad to monitor the progress on the housing plan.

The prime minister emphasized during the meeting that one of the top priorities of the government is to ensure access to secure and affordable housing for all citizens. “Apna Ghar Scheme was launched to help low and middle-income households realise the dream of owning a house,” he remarked.

Shehbaz Sharif directed the officials to hasten the work on the programme and asked the public and private sector banks to augment the financing under the scheme for its smooth execution.

The prime minister also requested the concerned authorities to design a comprehensive strategy for vertical and horizontal housing development models to fulfill the increasing housing demands of the country.

In the briefing, authorities said that banks have so far approved funding of Rs204 billion under the scheme while Rs27 billion already disbursed to beneficiaries.

It was further stated to the conference that the Ministry of Housing and Works and the State Bank of Pakistan are holding weekly reviews to assess progress and improve implementation of the initiative.

The meeting was attended by Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Economic Affairs, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Finance Minister, Riaz Hussain, Minister for Housing and Works, Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Finance and Railways, and other government officials.
