The government has formally discontinued providing free electricity units to workers in the power industry.

Reports state that the judgment comes after the Lahore High Court ruled in favor of the Power Division’s plea to have the benefit removed.

Owais Leghari, the Federal Minister for Power Division, praised the court’s ruling and described it as a significant step toward reform in the nation’s energy industry.

He claimed in a post on X that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s administration had eliminated the free electricity units benefit for workers in the power sector for the first time in Pakistani history.

leghari stated that the administration will do all required to improve the nation as a whole.
