CPPA proposes another electricity tariff increase.

Electricity consumers should expect another significant increase in costs in the coming days. The CPPA has petitioned the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to allow a Rs2.94/unit increase in electricity tariffs for the March FCA.

The NEPRA’s decision would place a financial burden of Rs22.80 billion on power customers.

The CPPA reports that approximately 7 billion units were supplied to consumers in March 2024. Over Rs7 billion in changes have been made in the recent rise.

As part of the fuel price adjustment (FCA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced a hefty Rs7.5 per unit increase in electricity prices in February.

According to the NEPRA statement, the power sector’s regulatory authority approved an increase in the electricity tariff by Rs7.5 per kilowatt hour (kWh) under the head FCA of January 2024, which was charged to power users in March 2024.

The electricity pricing increase imposed an additional Rs66 billion burden on already overburdened power consumers.
