President Zardari calls on the PPP to maintain democratic unity on Foundation Day.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members and supporters were exhorted by President Asif Ali Zardari to preserve democratic unity, defend the federation, and strive for a tolerant and progressive Pakistan.
“We pay tribute to our Founder Chairman, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, whose vision, courage, and sacrifices strengthened Pakistan’s democratic foundations and inspired generations,” he wrote in a statement on the Pakistan Peoples Party’s 58th Foundation Day.
“The PPP has risen to the difficulties of its period throughout its existence. The PPP led the fight to restore people’s rights and remained steadfast as the party of democratic resistance when Pakistan was subject to authoritarian rule. The party has continuously sought to promote unity, stabilize the democratic system, and maintain the course of the political process,” he continued.
“Pakistan received its first consensus Constitution in 1973 under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a national covenant that still serves as a guide for our democracy,” he remarked.
The PPP is also proud of its contribution to the federation’s strengthening, the start of reforms in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the establishment of the nation’s nuclear program, and the advancement of historic reforms in social justice, education, labor protections, and land rights.
He added, “The PPP has remained central to Pakistan’s democratic evolution from the MRD and ARD movements to the Charter of Democracy, the Eighteenth Amendment, and the National Action Plan.” The PPP has been the voice of workers, peasants, women, minorities, and all marginalized communities since its founding. Their empowerment and inclusion have influenced our political course and continue to be vital to our goals.
As we commemorate this day, let us reaffirm our dedication to democracy, social justice, equality, and the empowerment of all citizens, especially women and minorities, whose involvement is crucial to Pakistan’s peaceful and diverse future. Pakistan Peoples Party, long live. “Pakistan, long live,” he said.
