PTA discussing FBR’s move to restrict SIM cards

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently made a judgment that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is now considering. The PTA is discussing the decision with interested parties, including cellular mobile providers.

“Our primary goal is to maintain adherence to applicable legal requirements and regulatory frameworks while protecting the rights of telecom users,” the PTA stated in a statement on Thursday.

The PTA added that any new developments on the subject will be communicated appropriately.

FBR has chosen to disable 506,000 non-filers’ cellphone SIMs in an effort to put more pressure on them. The Income Tax General Order has been published in order to bring the plan to reality.

The FBR has determined who has not filed their income tax returns in accordance with the order.
