The Karakoram Highway between Gilgit and Kohistan is closed.

The recent heavy rains have caused significant landslides, forcing the closure of the Kohistan-Gilgit portion of the Karakoram Highway.

The road at the Doga bridge near Barsin still has landslide debris because of the recent storms. Travel and commerce in the area have been impacted by the restriction, which has been in place since Sunday. The closure affects land communication between Gilgit and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The mountain debris that has accumulated on the road has complicated efforts to repair the highway. Even though equipment was sent to the location, clearing work has been put off until better weather arrives. The tourist administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an assurance through its spokesman that work to remove the debris and reopen the roadway will get underway as soon as the weather clears.

He claimed that last night, the authorities had sent out a warning to visitors. Numerous locations in Kohistan and Diamer are home to hundreds of stranded travelers. It was not possible to begin the reconstruction of the Karakoram Highway until recently.

Furthermore, a National Highway Authority representative stated that there is a possibility of landslides at various locations along the Karakoram Highway due to the heavy rains. He stated that wherever feasible, a clearing operation is in progress and that they are having trouble getting rid of the debris because of the bad weather.

The public was also advised by the NHA not to travel on the Karakoram Highway. The official stated that the NHA, FWO, and municipal administrations are making a lot of effort to clear the roads.

The KP Tourism Authority has issued a notice alerting travelers of the closure of the Kohistan to Gilgit portion, asking them to proceed with caution and arrange alternate routes. As the clearing operation moves forward, the authorities will offer updates while keeping a close eye on the situation.
