The SHC has issued a warning to officials, stating that they will be arrested if they fail to distribute wheat sacks to farmers.

The farmers filed petitions with the Sukkur Bench of the Sindh High Court alleging the lack of availability of wheat bags. The farmers in their petitions claimed that wheat bags were being supplied to the influential landlords and requested monetary compensation.

A panel consisting of two judges, Justice Adnan Abdul Karim Memon and Justice Muhammad Abdul Rehman, presided over the pleas at the Sukkur Bench of the Sindh High Court.

Following the presentation of preliminary arguments, the court has instructed officials from the Sindh food department to supply wheat sacks to the farmers by 11 am tomorrow. Failure to comply may result in their detention.

The wheat harvest is prepared for distribution in the market, however, farmers are allegedly encountering difficulties in obtaining sacks for the wheat.

The Sindh cabinet made the decision on March 20 to establish a wheat purchase target of 900,000 tons.

The meeting took place at CM House and was attended by provincial ministers including Sharjeel Memon, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Nasir Shah, Sardar Shah, Saeed Ghani, Jam Khan Shoro, Zia Lanjar, Mohammad Bux Mahar, Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, Zulfiqar Shah, as well as Advisors Babal Khan Bahyo, Ehsan Mazari, Najmi Alam, and others. The new Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Advocate General, Prosecutor General, and others were also present.
