For Chinese engineers and officials, the Punjab government has approved 37 bulletproof cars.

In order to improve the security of Chinese engineers and officials working on various projects, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Punjab government has approved the purchase of 37 bulletproof cars.

Details state that the purchase of 11 armoured cars expressly meant for CPEC projects has received approval from the Punjab government. 23 vehicles that will be purchased by Chinese residents working on other projects in the province have also been approved for purchase.

To strengthen security measures, three armoured cars have also been designated for permanent installations.

18 bulletproof cars are currently in place to protect Chinese nationals, according to official confirmation. These actions are the result of an extensive security examination and evaluation of Chinese nationals’ travel patterns from January 1 to March 31.

The province of Punjab’s government has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese workers engaged in critical infrastructure projects by allocating more armoured cars.

These actions follow the attack on a Chinese national convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district on March 26, which resulted in the deaths of five engineers and their Pakistani driver. In Shangla district’s Bisham tehsil, their vehicle was attacked.

Muhammad Ali, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police in Malakand, stated that the incident seemed to be a suicide and added that the passenger car was travelling from Islamabad to Kohistan. According to the officer, attackers crashed a car carrying explosives into the passenger car, causing it to tumble into a ditch.
