The government of Punjab has declared the initiation of metro bus projects in three cities.

The Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, along with her father and the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, presided over an important meeting that aimed to improve the transportation infrastructure in the province. The meeting specifically discussed the development of an underground train project in Lahore and the execution of metro bus projects in three cities of Punjab.

During the discussion, the chief minister stressed the importance of thorough planning for the underground train project in Lahore and requested a comprehensive plan for this matter. In addition, determinations were reached about the metro bus initiatives in three cities of Punjab, accompanied by comprehensive presentations on several facets of transportation, including the distribution of bicycles for students.

Nawaz Sharif instructed authorities to augment the quantity of motorcycles accessible to students and guarantee that the monthly payments for these motorcycles are maintained at a minimum level in order to alleviate the financial strain on students. He restated that it was the government’s duty to provide financial assistance to students.

As per these instructions, it was declared that 19,000 gasoline-powered motorcycles and 1,000 electric motorcycles will be offered to students who have the necessary licenses on a monthly payment plan without any interest. The installment amounts for petrol bikes will be below Rs5,000, whilst for e-bikes, it would be below Rs10,000.

In addition, a quota system has been established to provide equal chances for male and female students. In urban areas, there is a 50% allocation for each gender, but in rural areas, there is a 70% quota for male students and a 30% quota for female students.

In addition, a proposal was made to deploy 27 fully electric buses in Lahore, in keeping with the government’s initiatives to encourage environmentally friendly transportation options.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to declare the commencement of accepting applications for the bike scheme before to Eid, in order to facilitate extensive participation in the program and ensure prompt distribution of bicycles to qualified students throughout Punjab.
